I have not owned a vehicle for five years. My driving record shows no car accidents, no tickets, no nothing. Finally, I get a truck from a will that my dad left me. I did not have much money so decided to get the cheapest insurance, and paid for tax, tag & title, then waited two months until I could afford better insurance, which I purchased. It was supposed to be a premier plan that covered everything bumper to bumper. A couple of weeks later I ran out of gas and had to leave my truck on the side of the road, and went back for it the next day. When I came back the truck was damaged badly by a collision with another car. Whoever hit me, did not leave any information.
There was no physical damage or peripheral damage to other property, so I did not call the police. Instead, I immediately put a claim into Progressive Insurance. They did a preliminary investigation, then asked for a picture of the truck before the extra insurance was added.
I provided everything they asked for. After telling them it was raining and the roads were muddy, making it easy for a collision to happen, they pulled up their own records of weather and said it didn't show enough rain to cause a hazardous condition. The truth is it was raining hard and the roads were muddy. I told them I walked home after running out of gas and they asked for my phone records to verify my location, which I provided. Then, they began speaking with my neighbors, who knew nothing of the accident. I live in a rural area where the houses are sparse and spread far apart. They took a statement from a relative. He was the one who saw the truck had been hit before I did. He identified the damage to the insurance company in detail.
When the extra insurance was purchased Progressive swore up and down that my additional coverage would cover everything. But, when they completed their investigation they said that it couldn’t be proved how the accident happened. They wouldn’t cover the damage without proper proof. Now, my truck looks like a wreck, The cost out of pocket to fix it is $4,500. I have been calling everybody, the Attorney General’s Office, Consumer Advocate Protection Agency. I even called a lawyer. So far, no results. This is not fair and is nothing but deceit on the part of the insurance company. Never take out an insurance policy with Progressive.
