Blogging Tips

The Goal is to Have Your Blog Begin a Series of Dialogues

You’ve worked hard, blogging on your website several times a week. One day you look on Google and see that your name is getting out there. What’s next? What is the actual endgame, besides building a high ranking on the search engines? A high ranking is important, but what you should be striving for is to publish material that is exciting, relevant, and well-written? Your style and content must engage the reader and reel them in so they will stay on and finish your blog. When that is accomplished positive things begin to happen. If your blogs are poignant and sharp your business will begin to grow.

One way growth begins is through SEO, as blogs do stir the search engines, especially if they are getting a lot of traffic and you are using the right keywords. But that is not the only reason to blog. What you want to accomplish over time is not only to engage the reader with the content. That is great if you are writing novels, but you’re not writing novels, at least not in this endeavor Remember, you are writing to disclose your knowledge - to exhibit yourself like the guru of your local real estate market. You want to become the go- to- guy, and to become the go-to- guy is the whole ball of wax and that is not a simple thing to accomplish. It takes time to gain belief and trust from your reader. That means you have to know what the hell you are talking about.

If your blogs are solid what you will begin to see are questions coming through to you’re website. The questions will run on a wide spectrum. It could be anything, like: Is this house in a good neighborhood? Do you think it’s overpriced? Where do I go to look to find out what the schools in that area are like? What is the age of the homes, and do they have particular problems like sewer-line issues?

It could be any of a thousand questions, and once you start getting questions your answer begins a dialogue, and dialogue is the start of a relationship. No matter what anyone says, most all sales transactions are built on relationships. They may be short and ephemeral, but they sure do count when converted into a sales transaction. The more people who seek you out as an expert, the better. If you are not fielding a ton of questions from your blog after you’ve published several of them you are doing something wrong. It could be your writing is not clear and engaging, causing the reader to discard your blog and move on to the next. As I said, there are hundreds of distractions on the Internet. Or it could be the topic. Are you writing about a subject that people want to learn more about? Always keep in the back of your mind that your blog has to grab and hold the reader instantly.

A blog must have detailed and concise content, but no single piece of writing satisfies questions for all people. Everyone is different, and everyone digests information in different ways. But if your subject matter is clear and concise and you clarify a topic with words and visuals, such as maps and graphs, the average reader is going to come back to you for further description and information, which gives you, the writer, an opportunity to elucidate on the subject at hand and get that dialogue going. If you are struggling with keeping your thoughts together when pen meets paper, please contact us and we will be glad to help you any way we can.
